Coffee Culture & Traditions – Ataco Town

Departs from San Salvador at 8:30 AM. Imagine following the journey of a coffee bean from the plantation to the coffee mill to a cup of gourmet coffee. When you take the tour at El Carmen Estate Coffee Farm, located in the heart of the Mesoamerican biological corridor system, in the town of Ataco , at 1300 masl, you'll do exactly that! The tour, given by 4 th generation members of the Alfaro family, with more than 100 years of coffee culture tradition is really an experience worth living. On their classic estate farm, your day starts on the family's 19 th century home followed by going to the coffee fields and traditional coffee processing mill. We'll teach you all about 100% bourbon variety coffee production. From the fields, where you can feel free to pick a few perfect ripe cherries to taste their sweetness, we'll take you into the drying patios, roasting and packaging facilities where you'll soak in the aroma of roasting coffee and learn all about this magical process that turns a red coffee cherry into a delicious cup of gourmet coffee that you will also try!. Learn about how deeply coffee culture is immersed into the history, traditions and people of El Salvador, and leave with a not only a taste of one the best coffees you have ever had. We will also visit the town of Concepcion de Ataco ; a unique town with its beautiful church and colorful houses and, finally we'll experience the art of carving wood saints and hammocks woven with traditional looms.  Return to San Salvador in the afternoon.
